The central government announced additional schemes of reservation of jobs for Agniveers in defence and home ministry.

But despite of this announcement, made on Saturday the 18th of June, 2022, violence and widespread protests continued against the Agnipath recruitment scheme offering a short term employment of four years in the defence forces.

On Friday the government had already announced a one time waiver of raising the upper limit of age up to 23 years to apply for the Agnipath considering fresh recruitment in defence forces was stopped during the last two years due to Covid19 situation.

Protests by job seekers have been acute in Bihar and many parts eastern Uttar Pradesh.

On Saturday the defence minister tweeted that for Agniveers, a 10% reservation will be implemented in the Indian Coast Guard, defence civilian posts and all the 16 Defence Public Sector Undertakings.

Soon after this home ministry also tweeted its announcement – that “The MHA also decides to give 3 years age relaxation beyond the prescribed upper age limit to Agniveers for recruitment in CAPFs & Assam Rifles. Further, for the first batch of Agniveer, the age relaxation will be for 5 years beyond the prescribed upper age limit.”
