Another feather in the cap for India’s strategic dimension.

This time successful firing of the ‘Extended Range Version’ of BrahMos Air Launched missile from Su-30 MKI fighter aircraft on Thursday the 12th of May, 2022.

The extended range of BrahMos is 350 kms. The normal range of its base version is 290 kms.

According to a statement issued by Mod (Ministry of Defence) said the launch from the aircraft was as planned and the missile achieved a direct hit on the designated target in the testing range over waters of Bay of Bengal.

It was the first launch of Extended Range version of BrahMos missile from Su-30MKI aircraft. With this, the IAF has achieved the capability to carry out hits with pinpoint accuracy from Su-30MKI aircraft against land or sea based targets.

Developed by India-Russia joint venture BrahMos Aerospace, the missile is equipped with stealth technology and a guidance system with advanced software for acquiring target.

Defence experts say BrahMos missile is one of the fastest supersonic cruise missile that any country aspire to have it.  It can be launched from submarine, ships, aircraft or land.
