 India has cemented its relations with Mozambique to a next level.

On Friday the 14th of April 2023 the External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who is visiting Mozambique called on President Filipe Nyusi during which he conveyed that India is committed to work for enhancing bilateral trade, defence and development cooperation, and people to people ties.

EAM also co-chaired the 5th India-Mozambique Joint Commission Meeting with his Mozambican counterpart Veronica Macamo, during which they took stock of the bilateral cooperation and explored new avenues to intensify it further.

In tweets, he said:

“Honoured to call on President Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique. Conveyed the personal greetings of PM @narendramodi .

“Heart warming to hear his fond memories of time in Ahmedabad. Appreciate his deep interest in deepening our cooperation

“Valued his guidance on further developing our relationship. In line with PM Modi’s vision, India will respond to Mozambican priorities.

“Committed to work for advancements in trade and investments, defense, development cooperation, health and people to people ties.”

On co-chairing the Joint Commission Meeting, he said:

“Co-chaired the 5th India-Mozambique Joint Commission Meeting with FM Veronica Macamo.

“Took stock of progress made in wide spectrum of areas of our cooperation, including trade & investment, agriculture, energy, railways, health, education, development cooperation and defense.

“And explored new avenues to intensify it further.

“Exchanged perspectives on our solid cooperation in the multilateral fora. Congratulated Mozambique on its successful UNSC Presidency month.

“Agreed to work together to voice the concerns of Global South, especially on issues like terrorism and climate change,” he posted.
