The Millennium City is all set to have its first woman police chief from Tuesday when 1994-batch, Haryana-cadre IPS officer Kala Ramachandranwill assume the charge of the city police commissioner.

Ramachandran will take over the charge from outgoing Police Commissioner K K Rao who has been transferred to the Centre for Police Training and Research at Bhondsi near Gurugram.

News agency Press Trust of India ( PTI) is reporting that Ms Ramachandran listed managing traffic, providing safety and security to city residents and enhancing the ease of doing business among her priorities, besides focussing on basic policing.

“I will spell out my detailed plans when I join and meet my team but my basic goal of strengthening basic policing is very clear. As police personnel, I would ensure that the entire force works towards making the city and its residents safe and secure,” she told PTI.

Ramachandran has worked earlier as superintendent of police in Rewari, Fatehabad and Panchkula districts in Haryana. She was also on central deputation to Intelligence Bureau from 2001 and headed the North Eastern Police Academy in Meghalaya from 2017 to 2020.
