As a mark of respect for a true friend of India, Sheikh Khalifa the ruler of United Arab Emirates (UAE) who passed away on Friday the 13th of May 2022, one-day national mourning has been declared.

It was decided by the government that the national flag, the tricolour, will fly at half-mast on Saturday the 14th of May as a mark of respect to the ruler of UAE.

Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayad Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, will be remembered as a leader who modernized and empowered the United Arab Emirates and also was the key figure of the India-UAE relationship.

Sheikh Khalifa Al Nahyan served as the president of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi since November 2004.

Born in 1948, Sheikh Khalifa was the second President of the UAE and the 16th Ruler of Abu Dhabi
He succeeded his father, the founder of UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in November 2004.
