A strong and sturdy Mahabali tug has entered into service for Indian Navy giving impetus to the firefighting capabilities alongside with berthing un-berthing duties.
The 25 tonns Bollard Pull (BP) Tug ‘Mahabali’ was formally launched at Bharuch in Gujarat under the ambitious made-in-India initiative of the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
Mahabali is a part of three-tugs contract for construction and delivery by M/s Shoft Shipyard Pvt Ltd (SSPL), an MSME.
These Tugs are built under the classification rules of Indian Register of Shipping (IRS).
The availability of Tugs will provide impetus to Operational commitments of Indian Navy by facilitating assistance to Naval ships and submarines during berthing and un-berthing, turning and manoeuvring in confined waters.
The Tugs will also provide afloat firefighting assistance to ships alongside, and at anchorage, and will have capability to conduct limited Search and Rescue Operations.
