One of the most wanted terrorist in the world and Osama bin-laden’s second in command, Ayman al-Zawahari was eliminated in a US drone strike in Kabul on Tuesday the 2nd of August 2022.

In a televised statement the US president Joe Biden confirmed killing of Zawahari.

The strike took place around 6.18 am local time in Kabul when terrorist al-Zawahari reportedly was standing in the balcony of his house in Kabul when two missiles shredded him and cutting him in multiple pieces.

The pin-point hitting of target was achieved by a new variant of Hellfire R9X missile which is actually minus its warhead but carrying  pointed multiple steel blades that pops out seconds before the impact.

This weapon is now one of the most favored by US agencies to take-out terrorist targets while avoiding civilian casualties.

President Biden said Zawahiri had “carved a trail of murder and violence against American citizens” adding “Now justice has been delivered and this terrorist leader is no more”.

Since this particular missile does not explode on impact, there is not much collateral damage at the location. Various media reports are suggesting that only Ayman al-Zawahari was killed.

The 71-years old Zawahiri took over al-Qaeda after the death of Osama bin Laden in 2011.

He carried a reward of US 25 Million dollars on his head.

It was he along with Bin Laden who together plotted the 9/11 attacks in World Trade Centre in New York and was designated as the “most wanted terrorist” by the USA.

With the killing of the al-Qaeda leader case files pertaining to victims and families affected 9\11 are most likely to be closed.

Zawahiri had also masterminded other acts of violence, including the suicide bombing of the USS Cole naval destroyer in Aden in October 2000 which killed 17 US sailors.
