The capital New Delhi is now facing a water supply problem due to receding level in river Yamuna along with continuing heatwave conditions.

When reports last came-in on Saturday the 14th of May 2022,  level in the Wazirabad raw water pond had dropped to 670.70 feet, the lowest in 2022.

It was 671.80 feet on Thursday last.

The pond level had dropped to 667 feet on July 11 last year, prompting the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to move the Supreme Court seeking directions to Haryana to release additional water in the Yamuna.

The DJB had despatched three SOS letters to Haryana Irrigation authorities to release raw water for Delhi.

These letters were written on May 12, May 3 and April 30, according to Delhi Jal Board officials.

Delhi requires around 1,200 MGD of water, while the DJB supplies around 950 MGD.
