The LAC – the ‘line of actual control’ between India and China is not yet demarcated giving rise to the current stand-off in the Eastern Ladhak region.

Earlier on Saturday, the 6th of June 2020, the scheduled 8.30 am border meeting between corps commanders on either side of the disputed line was pushed to 11.30 am on the Chinese request.

The Indian delegation was led by Lieutenant General Harinder Singh, Commander of Leh based 14 Corps. The Chinese side was headed by the Commander of the PLA’s (People’s Liberation Army) Tibet Military District.

Since the BPM, the ‘border personnel meeting’ took place on the Chinese side, Lt. Gen Harinder Singh had the opportunity to make the initial remarks while objecting to the Chinese presence on Indian side of LAC.

Till late in evening no official statement was issued from the either side. The only statement issued was from Army PRO on PIB’s website around noon time:

‘Indian and Chinese officials continue to remain engaged through the established military and diplomatic channels to address the current situation in the India-China border areas.  At this stage, therefore, any speculative and unsubstantiated reporting about these engagements would not be helpful and the media is advised to refrain from such reporting’, stated the PIB release.

The 3,488 kms long border between India and China is normally called the world’s most disputed peaceful border.

From the Indian side, this borderline is patrolled by ITBP Force, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force.

In absence of any border guarding entity from the Chinese side, its the PLA detachments that bumps into ugly face-offs with Indian Army & the ITBP force.
